a green core for the
center of a
neighborhood
Elaine Richardson Public Park is a two-acre public park located in southern San Jose. Built to honor Elaine Richardson, a long-time business owner of the historic Koffee Kup Cafe. In a neighborhood currently void of parks, this was designed to create a location for the adjacent community to gather, enjoy open space and utilize the parks multiple recreational amenities.
As a City of San Jose owned and operated but developer built community park, the design team worked closely with multiple City departments to deliver a successful facility. The design team was responsible for balancing the needs of the Public Works and Parks and Recreation Departments, City Landscape Architectural staff, the existing multifamily residential development and the developer who would ultimately build the park.
